    FOUR - PIECE MILK GLASS CONDIMENT SET (CASTOR SET) MADE IN THE US DURING THE 1880'S BY EAGLE GLASS COMPANY
    This beautiful set replaced the salt sellers of the early and middle 1800's.  This type of set was advertised by Dithridge as early as 1894 in CHINA GLASS & LAMPS.  In this page advertisement, Dithridge boasted that they have the largest line of Opal Glass (Milk Glass) Salts, Peppers, Molasses Cans, Caster Sets, and Tooth Pick Holders,
    In 1898 Eagle Glass & Manufacturing Co. in a full page add showed pictured a group of their new products.  One of the new sets was this style of 4 piece Caster Set, but in a different pattern.  It was the exact shape of the tray and three bottles w/ lids, as shown in these pictures.  With this proof in CHINA, GLASS & LAMP, JANUARY 26, 1809 we know that Eagle Glass company made this set.
    One of the lids just sits on on the bottle.  After 142 years we can not expect
    everything
    the be perfect.  A beautiful part of this set is the center/top of the tray.  There is a beautiful flower edged in gold. With all the washing of the tray, it is amazing that the original paint is still outlining the flower.  This is an excellent quality piece. The longest point on the tray is 7 inches, the tallest shaker is 3 1/4 inches, and the other two are both 2 1/4 inches.  The weight of the set is 11 1/8 ozs.
    Please note that all of my items are antiques and will have normal flaws from manufacturing or hand making processes. Some of the flaws can include: slight color discolorations or irregularities, are bubbles, light scratching, uneven surface or seams and/or signs of normal wear.  They are preowned and will show a varied amount of wear. We try to note any major imperfections and damage.
