  • Condition: This is an about uncirculated AU58 very rare medal. The design is seen in later years as a hard times token, but this is an earlier British medal and in white metal instead of brass. You get the rare medal shown in the photos. Some areas on reverse with slightly darker toning, more so in the photos, but less so in hand. VERY Rare. Opportunity knocks.

    Very very rare.
    Medal, 1834, WM, AM I NOT A WOMAN & SISTER, ANTI SLAVERY MEDAL, BRITISH BHM-1669 White Metal, NGC AU58, Cert# 3154049-003.
    Rare and Important Medal. Obv. kneeling female slave in chains before full figure female figure representing Justice who holds scales.
    Text around and below “Am I Not A Woman And A Sister/Let Us Break Their Bands Asunder And Cast Away Their Cords. Psalm II: 3.”
    Reverse center reads “To The Friends Of Justice, Mercy And Freedom.” This is surrounded by a leaf and flower wreath wrapped in a ribbon with the names
    “Penn/Granville Sharp/Wilburforce/Benezet/Clarkson/Toussant Louverture/Stephen/D. Barclay.” Medallist: Halliday.
    There was a hard times token created about 4 years after this medal was made in Great Britain,
    this is much more scarce and is in white metal instead of the
    later brass token.
